# Docs and Ask DIA

Ask DIA in a chat to write a document. A file card appears in the reply, and DIA keeps writing while you watch. Click the card, or find the file under **Files** in the chat header, to open it in a window over the chat.

You can move, resize, snap, maximize and minimize these windows, and keep several open at once.

<Callout type="note">
  DIA creates Docs from a chat. There's no New document button, and you can't import a Word file into the editor. A Doc opens from its chat, so in Files & Media use **Show in chat** first.
</Callout>

## Edit a Doc

The toolbar covers text styles, fonts, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, text color, lists, alignment, links, images and tables. Images are added by web address.

The status line shows the saved version, word count and read time. If you lose your connection, DIA keeps your edits and sends them when you're back.

## Ask DIA to change it

Type in the **Ask** bar at the bottom of the window. Or select text and choose **Ask DIA**, **Rewrite**, **Shorten**, **Expand** or **Tone**.

DIA shows its progress as it edits. Click **Stop** to end it and keep what it has written, or **Undo** on its reply to take the whole edit back in one step.

Each Ask uses credits, and only one can run on a Doc at a time. If the Doc is too long to work on whole, select a part of it.

## Restore a version

Click the version control in the title bar, pick a version and click **Restore this version**. **Back to current** returns you to the latest one.

## Who can open a Doc

The same people who can see the chat's files.
